We are honored to announce that the European Journal of Sociology (EJS) will join the Chicago Journals publishing program in 2027.

“The European Journal of Sociology is one of the premier venues for ambitious, synthetic sociology,” said EJS editor Leon Wansleben. “We look forward to working with Chicago to increase the journal’s institutional and scholarly reach, and to continue cultivating research that is outstanding in its historical perspective and theoretical rigor.”

Founded in 1960, the European Journal of Sociology is committed to advancing general sociology and critical dialogue between social theory and empirical work at various scales of social life. Attuned to the multilingualism of sociological traditions in Europe and beyond, EJS encourages translations across these traditions and adjacent disciplines like anthropology, economics, history, law, and political science.

“EJS is an exceptional complement to our social sciences list,” said Journals Director Ashley Towne. “We’re excited to bring the journalto new audiences through increased visibility at conferences, and reinstated individual and student subscriptions.”

EJS joins Chicago’s portfolio of distinguished sociology journals including the American Journal of Sociology, Crime and Justice, Critical Historical Studies, Economic Development and Cultural Change, The Journal of African American History, The Journal of Politics, Polity, and Signs: Journal of Women and Culture in Society.

The full archive of EJS will be available to read on the Chicago Journals website in late 2026, and all new issues will be published there beginning in 2027.
